History

Biesse was founded in 1967 by Giancarlo Selci in Pesaro, Italy. Starting with the purchase of a single lathe, the company focused on engineering solutions for more efficient and productive manufacturing processes. Within less than a decade, Biesse created the first CNC boring machine for panel processing. A few years later it unveiled Rover, the first CNC machining center for wood applications.

Biesse expanded into the glass and stone industry in the 1980s, establishing Intermac in 1987 to manufacture CNC machining centers for glass and stone applications – a new direction that would later dovetail with the company’s growing North American presence when it acquired AGM Inc. in April 2007 and established Intermac America and Intermac Canada to focus on glass and stone.

Throughout the 1990s, Biesse continued to diversify and expand, creating HSD Mechatronics and later, Biesse Systems and Intermac Engineering. The internationalization process accelerated around this time with the opening of overseas subsidiaries, which today number 30 in 100 countries, in addition to a global network of 300+ agents and dealers, as well as 2,000 employees worldwide.

In 2007, Biesse opened Biesse Exchange and Intermac Exchange, offering full-service purchase, restoration and resale of pre-owned Biesse and Intermac machinery. Also in 2007, our Tooling and Accessories Department was created to provide customers with a complete selection of products to optimize the installation and operation of Biesse and Intermac machines.

Biesse in the Community

Proud Supporters of Make-A-Wish Foundation®

Biesse is a longtime supporter of Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Central and Western North Carolina. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1980 to grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. Make-A-Wish Foundation is funded entirely by donations from individuals, corporations and service groups.

Thanks to the generous participation of our employees and partners, Biesse has had the pleasure of granting two wishes per year annually. In 2007 we participated in the Second Annual Wish Upon A Star campaign, which helped fund nearly four wishes during the 2007-2008 fiscal year.
